DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

The Department of Economics was started in the year 1983 with pre-degree courses and started BA Economics programme with History and Political Science as complementary papers in the year 1993. The department believes in developing competent and committed professionals by giving students exposure to an invigorating academic environment supported by diverse co-curricular activities. Teaching methods using Power Point Presentation and the Net based techniques are followed to support and augment conventional methods. Open house programs, tutorials and remedial classes are organized on a regular basis.

Our biggest pride has always been the large volume of students who have always made us proud by maintaining a consistent record of high academic performance at the University level. Our greatest testimonial is the wide spectrum of eminent alumni that include young civil servants and academicians as well as illuminous political leaders. Efforts have been made to make collaborations with the educational institutions in Vaikom area. Many attempts have been made to make learning of Economics experiential to our students. We understand our commitment to the society and to its development. Most of our BA dissertations and other projects have consistently taken up issues relevant to the local community. The suggestions put forth by these studies have been accepted by the administrators in policy-making. We also have a good association with Kudumbasree Units, Cooperative Banks, Self-Help Groups, etc., in and around Vaikom Block
